By this further inspections were no longer justified and the time for a military approach has come.   1986   1986 a former Dimona technician, Mordechai Vanunu, presented the press proofs for the Israeli nuclear program. Subsequently, he was kidnapped by Israeli agents, stunned and shipped from Italy to Israel. A secret court convicted him for treason and espionage to 18 years in prison.
             
    On the 8th February the chief UN inspectors Hans Blix and Mohamed ElBaradei personally traveled to Iraq and meet there with the Iraqi government for talks. According to Blix, those talks have been very useful and successful; a further cooperation between Iraq and UN inspectors would was required by both sides and was supported.       While Vanunu was in prison, the newspaper The Times reports, that Israel would have material for 20 hydrogen bombs and 200 nuclear bombs
             
14.02.2003   On the 14th February the new report on the progress of weapons inspections was given to the UN Security Council. According to Hans Blix no weapons of mass destruction had been found, but there were many unanswered questions which clarification is urgently needed. Again, he speaks for the extension of the inspections.   2004   In Spring Mordechai Vanunu was released from prison under strict conditions. Among other things he is not allowed to leave Israel, not allowed to approach foreign embassy and must give accountability for planned relocation. In addition, he is not allowed to use neither cell phones nor internet use, and any contact with foreign journalists is prohibited too. A passport has been denied.

She sees no sense in extending the UN inspections; instead this step would only decrease the pressure on Iraq. In another interview she announces the developing of a new resolution, but also pointed out that the U.S. is not depended on a further resolution of the UN in order to use military action against Iraq. The U.S. ready for a solo trip without the mandate of the United Nations.   2004   In recent times doubts about the safety of the 40-year-old reactor have arisen. As a precaution, the authorities in 2004 had distributed iodine tablets to the population in the environment.

29.05.2003   The U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz said in the British magazine Vanity Fair that the issue of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction was primary used for political reasons for the invasion. The weapons of mass destruction in Baghdad were never the main war reason for the USA. "For bureaucratic reasons," the U.S. government had concentrated on this issue, because this was one reason that everyone could have agree to.
